A good article by the author. There are many colleges for Engineering. But how many of them are good? Many colleges don't have good faculty even. They show the names of some people. But final year students will be teaching the first-year students. We can understand the quality of education in those colleges.

Except in IITS and a few standard institutes in both government and private sector also, the infrastructure is not there. In many government universities, there will be much equipment but none of them will be in working conditions. But in good private colleges, there is good equipment and they are being maintained properly.

In Telugu, there is a saying that a spoon of cow milk is better than a glass of donkey milk. In the same way, even if we have only a few colleges which are having good standards, the output from such institutes will have good quality education.

Coming to Engineering degree in 2020, it is always worth to have BE/B Tech degree if you have interest in going to the core job and try to improve in that line. After completing BE mechanical if you want to go for an IT job, what is the use of studying mechanical? So we should have an interest in the studied subject, and we should be on the top always. Then any time engineering degree will have its value.

Coming to the point of Science or Engineering, my view is that one should go for the subject he likes. If you have interest in Chemistry go for B.Sc Chemistry but not for BE mechanical. If you have an interest in Statistics go for that. But we should remember that we should be understanding the subject well and we should study the subject with focus and get a better rating. Then any subject will be okay and you will be placed well.

Though the engineering profession is a specialised one, the quality of output in the different streams is achievable through the prominent Institutes like IITs or NITs only. The second option would be to choose state Engineering colleges being run by the state governments. In fact, if we go back to the history of 30 years back, there was tough competition in this line to get a seat in an engineering college. The situation of the admission eased with the openings of more and more engineering colleges.

Our shrinking economy has curtailed the further intake of engineers. As a result, there is a huge force of unemployed engineers. The solution to this burgeoning problem can be tackled effectively with a better appreciation of the situation. The aspirants have to appreciate the values of each field including the different streams of science providing them gainful knowledge apart from generating employment in other areas such as teachers, scientists, lecturers, research scholars etc. Other than this, they would also get oppurtunities in different segments such as Probationary officers in banks, IAS, Railways and other central government jobs etc.

Remedy lies in the proper assessment of the situation and course should be selected in accordance with one's inclination and the present sectors wherein they could fit after acquiring a qualification.

Studying engineering is always worth the time. But we have to find out the colleges by verifying their efficiency and quality of teaching, discipline, infrastructure, placement capacity, etc.

The effectiveness of engineering education institutions is the key to this study. The current situation is that so many engineering colleges are sprouting up and creating a large number of failed students. The first thing we need is to find efficient engineering colleges that have the necessary categories. Admission to major colleges like IT and NIT requires a very high mark in the eligibility test.

Government colleges are relatively better. This is not to say that private engineering colleges are bad at all. Fees and other related costs are lower in government colleges while costs of private colleges can be 2 to 3 times higher than that of Government College.

Learning and passing is not just the current norm. The student's interest in the subject and the ability to execute the work are also examined while considering him for a job. The fluency in the English language is also a main obstruction for the common candidates.

If you look at all these things and study engineering, it is always worth it at the point of getting a job.

A nice article by the author. Even I suggest people not to opt for the engineering degree but to go for any other professional course. Being a mechanical engineer myself, I have seen people becoming an engineer but they don't know even the basics when asked. The reason may be the number of private colleges that have opened in the country. There are lots of private colleges in the country which offer admissions even to below-average students who are not fit to do it. Also, the facilities and infrastructure the private colleges provide here are not good. So such students don't learn what a student from an IIT learns.

The openings here in India are also lesser than the number of engineers produced in the country.
