Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) es un tipo de bacteria que causa infección en el estómago. Es la principal causa de úlceras pépticas y también puede causar gastritis y cáncer de estómago.

Cerca del 30 al 40 % de las personas en los Estados Unidos contraen una infección por H. pylori. La mayoría de las personas la contraen de niños. En general, la H. pylori no causa síntomas, pero puede romper la capa protectora interna en el estómago de algunas personas y causar inflamación. Esto puede causar gastritis o una úlcera péptica.

No hay vacuna para H. pylori. Dado que puede propagarse a través de alimentos y agua contaminados, es posible que pueda prevenirla si:
