What Happens To My Bright Futures if I Drop Classes?

IF YOU DROP CLASSES BEFORE YOUR Bright Futures IS DISBURSED

  • If you drop below half-time enrollment before the end of the drop/add period, you may be ineligible for your Bright Futures Award.
  • It isyour responsibilityto pay the balance of your tuition and fees even if you are ineligible for aid after dropping below half-time enrollment.

IF YOU DROP or Withdraw from Classes AFTER YOUR Bright Futures IS DISBURSED

  • Your Bright Futures will be billed for the classes dropped or withdrawn after the initial drop/add period.
  • The amount owed is based off the number of credits dropped for the term.
  • Classes dropped through the Academic Regulations Committee (ARC) Petition process do not exempt a student from repayment of Bright Futures.
  • It isyour responsibilityto monitor and pay the balance on your student account which may result from dropped classes or withdrawing from the term.

IF YOU DROP below half-time during the summer term

  • If you drop below half time, you must repay the entire summer Bright Futures award.
  • If you withdraw from a course, and remain at least half time, then you will have to repay Bright Futures for that course.
  • You will be ineligible for Bright Futures until you have repaid in full.
  • If you graduate with your bachelor’s degree, then you are no longer eligible to receive Bright Futures unless you are an eligible graduate student. You can read more about graduate funding in the Bright Futures Student Handbook.

Bright Futures ELIGIBILITY

  • You must repay the entire amount owed to Bright Futures in order to renew.
  • After repaying Bright Futures, those hours may be used again for future coursework.
  • You are still required to meet the earned credit hour and GPA requirements associated with your Bright Futures award after repayment, see the Bright Futures Handbook.
  • You may contact the Financial Aid Office for guidance regarding the Bright Futures/Florida Scholarship Petition - Repayment form for extenuating circ*mstances only. If your petition is approved and you are no longer required to repay, then you cannot re-use those hours in a future semester, which means you may run out of Bright Futures before you graduate.
