  • CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exam 2022 is scheduled to be conducted in the month of March - April 2022.
  • With the present COVID surge in the country, many are wondering if the CBSE Board Exams can be cancelled?
  • Experts share the various alternatives CBSE is ready with, depending on the situation in March, April.

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE Term 2 Board Exams 2022 are scheduled to be conducted in March – April 2022. While Term 1 have been conducted by the board in December, the recent COVID surge has prompted the discussion on whether boards would be cancelled this year as well.

If not cancelled, would the exams be conducted in subjective mode or online or how? Would they be conducted in MCQ format or Subjective? Experts are confident exams would be conducted. As to how and when, there are different alternatives which CBSE is prepared for. Here is a quick look at CBSE’s alternatives and preparedness.

CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2022 Term 2: Not likely to be cancelled

Addressing the elephant in the room first, experts pointed out that the chances of CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2022 getting cancelled were next to none. Sources close to the board have pointed out that if the situation demands, the board is also prepared to cancel the examinations. However, there seems to be a slim chance of that happening.

“With the vaccinations underway and the board pushing for the same, there would be no reason for the examinations to be cancelled. Yes, the wave is a concern but the examinations are not happening today. Under proper guidelines and precautionary measures, vaccinated students can safely appear for the examinations,” shared Dr. Bhatnagar, a retired principal and advisor to many CBSE schools.

Mrs. Reema Rai, Principal, AIS has also pointed out that the exams are inevitable and stressed that they should in fact be conducted. “Safety of the students remain paramount but we have to look at the bigger picture. There is a larger fall out of closing schools and cancelled exams than the immediate threat. Last year, with Delta variant, it was unthinkable. However, with Class 10, 12 students largely vaccinated, teachers vaccinated, we have to step out and learn to live with this pandemic. Examinations can and must be conducted in a controlled environment following all safety protocols diligently. Also, Term 1 was successfully conducted so there is no reason why Term 2 can’t be or shouldn’t be.”

CBSE Term 2 Alternatives – MCQ or Subjective?

While many remain positive of exams being conducted, there is no real clarity on how and when. CBSE Coordinator, Dr. Prasad has pointed out that the board can choose between MCQ and Subjective as it is prepared for both but it is more likely to be subjective. “CBSE has released the sample papers for subjective type paper and I am of the opinion that the board would want to give students a chance with subjective type exam. Though Term 1 was conducted, there were concerns raised. A subjective examination would help CBSE get a fairer assessment of the children.”

A senior teacher from a prominent Delhi NCR school has pointed out that the board was not happy with the blatant cheating that was allowed in Term 1. “We all know that schools allowed cheating. We have all heard in hushed voices how answers were shared by teachers with students before the exams, how answers were as much as dictated for some. The board noticed too and modified. With its experience, I have a feeling it would be inclined more towards a subjective paper as it might give a better picture of the student’s progress.”

Many teachers agree with the sentiment but had their concerns. The recent surge in COVID cases (though showing signs of ebbing) have raised pointed questions of the possibility. “Vaccination or not, but if the cases go up till 10 lakh or worse – as many models are predicting, it would be very difficult to conduct examinations safely. We have to understand that even if the disease is not healthy, a board examination is usually conducted over a month. What if a child was to contract the disease and is isolated, how would be evaluate his performance? Would exams be conductd multiple times? This is not a one session examination…it requires multiple sessions. Hence, it is all about what would be the situation come March,” shared another teacher.

As for the board, there is no official notice in regards Term 2 board examination as yet. Sources close to the board have shared that the board is at present busy with declaration of Term 1 result. As for the Term 2 Board Exams, there is still time.

“CBSE Term 2 Date Sheet is likely to be release by end of January. Till then, it is more of a waiting game. The officials are mindful of the present situation and the decision would be taken keeping the safety of the students in mind. Till then, it is extremely important for all eligible to get vaccinated.”
