The number of students taking their time increases day by day to study European languages to East Asian languages like Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese.

There was a time when learning a foreign language was considered a secondary qualification. However, today, thanks to globalization and rising demand, students are opting for full-time careers.

The Korean language alone won’t help you get a job in Korea. Getting a job in Korea from India is always tricky as one needs different sets of skills and experience for various positions. The Korean company also needs to go through all the hassles and help you get a work permit. So, it isn’t easy to answer as it depends on many factors.

There isn’t any specific stream that combines well with Korean. It is more to do with companies where you are working. For example, some companies do business with Korean companies and the people of Korea. I usually suggest MBA as it suits most profiles since the requirement exists across the sector. Try masters in subjects that fit your interest, prospects, and skills. Once you settle down, you can use Korean too, probably as a combination or perhaps as a standalone career as per the situation. Other than ESL, getting a job in Korea is difficult for foreigners. Most prefer hiring from their own country as it is convenient and less hassle. However, you can still check some of their job portals and apply if possible. Alternatively, you can go there as a student and explore jobs during and after a post-study visa.

That depends on your goal. You can learn through self-study if you are learning Korean because of your interest in Kpop, Kdrama, and cultural aspects. You don’t need to take any proper course or exam. But if the reason is professional, well, I’d suggest taking a long-term study program and preferably offline. Also, official exams are conducted at authorized test centers, and online mode is not possible. So, you have to relocate. Think wisely if that is what you want to do.

You can apply, I guess, but chances would be less to get the scholarship. TOPIK level 4 isn’t compulsory, though it adds some benefit.

You can consider BA + MA in Korea. Alternatively, you can study part-time at any private institute. Once you gain an advanced level of competency, you can explore the possibility of a Korean translator in various organizations. Fluency in other languages like English can also help in this profession.

Do you want to learn Korean from Korea? You need to know Korean before applying for KGSP. Not mandatory, but it increases your chances. It will help you if you go through all their eligibility guidelines, available programs, and procedure.

Yes, you can apply to study at one of the King Sejong Korean institutes. Well, the pronunciation is really different. I’d suggest checking some YouTube videos or find a Korean teacher.

I doubt any Law college offers Korean as an elective subject. If you want to continue learning Korean, you have to some institutes or own through some books and audio lessons. I haven’t checked various Korean books, but I’m going to cover them in detail very soon. I’m also starting a new site, probably in February, especially for Korean. 🙂

Yes, it can be advantageous to some extent. I haven’t seen many works comprising B.com/B.ed and Korean. The introduction of Korean as a 3rd language is encouraging. But it will not make any significant difference in the next few years.
CBSE curriculum includes nearly a dozen foreign languages. Yet, 99% of schools only offer French, German, and some of them Spanish too. Learn as a secondary skill, and who knows, you might find something worthwhile down the line.

That is altogether a different topic, and it will be tricky to give you an exact answer you’re asking. There is no one particular way to achieve your goal. My suggestion would be to focus on your higher school and College education, study Korean, and then try different possibilities to get a job in South Korea provided that your fascination with K-world remains intact after a few years down the line.
Also, you don’t need to choose a career based on where you wish to go in the future. You can find all types of work opportunities in nearly every country. Getting there, of course, is a complex thing. And at your age, it is too early to think about that.

When it comes to the choice of language, I’m a language agnostic. French and Mandarin, of course, offer more career opportunities than Korean. But, the number of learners and competition is also fairly high. I think most people want to learn Korean because of their interest in K-pop, K-drama, and K-movies. However, this does not equate to more job possibilities. Jobs are there but fairly confined. But the number of learners who achieve higher proficiency is also limited. Most people quit before taking formal education in Korean or gaining a higher level in TOPIK. So, in the end, you have to decide whether you wish to go with low supply – low demand or high supply and high demand languages. It all depends on your objective. If your purpose is just to learn some beginner’s level for the sake of hobby, you don’t need any certification. However, if the target is a career, then you do need the recognized certification or degrees. Without that, HR won’t take the language skill seriously.
Apps are ok at the initial level, but beyond that, you need a teacher or some regular classes to accomplish your learning goals. They will also prepare for various exams like TOPIK. The considerable time you will spend searching and researching on the Internet can be saved, and the result will be better.

Distance learning isn’t effective, nor are there known good options. You can study part-time in one of the Korean institutes. Many are offering weekend and evening classes. If you want to pursue PG from Korea, especially from top universities like SNU, KU, or Yonsei, you have to prepare really well and meet the eligibility criteria due to the limited number of seats. I don’t know much about the MD program, but since most courses are taught in English, thus, you don’t need to speak Korean. If you want to research the Korean language, well, then you need near-native proficiency, something like TOPIK 6. It will take as much time as MBBS. Irrespective of possibilities, you can continue learning Korean, and see yourself how you can benefit from it. Good Luck.

I’m not sure about the clinical research and the language in which one has to do in South Korea. If, however, one has to do in the Korean language, you need to be proficient, i.e., TOPIK 6. Think in a layman’s terms — How you treat a patient in Korea without talking in the native tongue? Considering that South Korea is a ‘monolingual’ society, and Korean is a hard language, you need to take all pros and cons before starting out. But if you merely fancy to learn as a hobby or add some more value to C.V., go ahead. Whatever you accomplish, it will be worth. 🙂

Only JNU and CUJ offer MA in Korean. To get the admission, you need to clear the entrance test. For that, you need knowledge more than a diploma. After the Masters, you can explore plenty of job opportunities as a Korean specialist. Indian parents mostly display conservative attitudes, and that is why they typically want children to go with the known profession and advocate not to take the unnecessary risk in the new career avenues. But things are changing though at a slow pace. You can continue studying Korean. And hopefully, you might able to make a successful career in Korean.

As far as I know, there is no good option to Learn Korean in Nagpur. If you’re willing to relocate, you can pick one of the Korean learning institutes outside Maharashtra. I don’t want to demotivate you, but an extra or an elective language subject at University doesn’t make any meaningful difference as far as career is concerned. So, it does not matter which language you choose. Other than JNU, no University offers a bachelor’s program in Korean. Without prior knowledge in Korean equivalent to BA, MA is not possible. You can try to crack the JNU’s BA entrance exam 2020. Yes. Private institutes provide the certificates of completion that mention the concerned course, duration, date, and sometimes score too. The University also offers the same but with a better brand name, i.e., recognized College or University. For a part-time course, educational institutions don’t really matter. In fact, private institutes are usually better. Wherever you study, do appear for International proficiency tests (JLPT, HSK, or TOPIK). And JNU doesn’t offer a certificate in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

You can enroll in some long term Korean courses at the reputed center like the Korean culture center, DU, etc. Once you achieve a higher competency level, you can gauge your level by appearing for the TOPIK exam. Then you can apply to several MNC’s where Korean skill is prerequisite.

Language skills help if you achieve a certain level of competency level, and that takes a considerable amount of time and dedication. If you’re willing to do that, you can learn. At least as an interest. Career-wise, it may not be that beneficial to you though tough to predict.

ICAI membership is only valid in India. To my knowledge, ICAI does not have an MOU with South Korea. Besides, both countries have different taxation laws, auditing, financial setup, etc. Thus, it is challenging for an Indian CA to get a job in South Korea. Irrespective of opportunities, you can always learn Korean as a hobby. After all, your reason is the Korean Wave!

This is a common misconception. The hangeul (한글) is the Korean alphabet, and the Korean language, especially in South Korea is called hangugeo (한국어). The hangeul is very simple, and one can learn even in 1 day. However, to become semi-fluent or work as a Korean specialist, one needs to cross the semi-fluent competency, and it takes a few to several years.
To achieve that, I would suggest joining any Korean learning centers. It can be beneficial in your profession provided that you’re working with Korean businesses/ clients, and your Korean proficiency is at an advanced level. As per your progress, you can gauge your level and also earn international certification by giving the TOPIK exam. Good Luck!

While Korean language skills provide a wide range of employment possibilities, the combination with major in Commerce might not offer enough opportunities. I’m not aware of any Korean institute in Chandigarh.

The easiest part of the Korean language is the alphabet – 한글 (Hangul). It is so easy that one can learn in 1 day and able to read essential Konglish words. But this is just the beginning! You can enroll in IGNOU’s Certificate in Korean (CKLC). You can apply now — LINK. After CKLC, you can try Diploma in Korean from Manipur University. If you can relocate to cities like Kolkata or Delhi, there are many options!

You can try either a 3-year Advanced Diploma from Daulat Ram College or any institutes like King Sejong, Arirang Korean Academy, or IIKCL with a goal to achieve higher proficiency like TOPIK Level V. I’m not aware of any Korean course in Jalandhar. While one can learn the beginner’s level through online mode. However, it is very difficult to achieve Intermediate or higher proficiency without attending regular classes or Immersion-Based Learning by living in South Korea. Yes, there are plenty of courses on Japanese culture, history, and literature. In fact, all degree level and few part-time long duration courses at a few Universities follow an interdisciplinary approach, with an emphasis on history, language, literature, and culture of the country concerned. Whether you’re looking for teaching jobs in South Korea or want to study the literature of Korea or Japan, you need high-level Korean or Japanese language skills, something like TOPIK Level V of or JLPT N2 of Japanese Proficiency Test. This may take 3-5 years! Don’t worry about the time-frame. If you are determined to learn Korean or Japanese, no one can stop you. 🙂

You might find some opportunities as a legal translator, or dealing with overseas clients or international laws, or at corporate level, immigration, etc. but i feel a foreign language might not be a valuable asset in your legal career. Even if you find some opportunities in future, it would be difficult to predict which language. Plus, most companies hire language expert for the required work. If you like Korean, you can definitely learn. Career is not the only reason why someone should learn a foreign language. At least, i never did.

You are not alone. Korean is one of the few languages which is most attracted to the cultural aspect and astonishing popularity of K-Drama, K-Movies, and K-Pop. You can try to learn some beginners level Korean through self-study since there is no educational institutes in Allahabad offering Korean classes. After BA, you can enroll in some Korean program if you’re willing to relocate to different cities like Delhi. Don’t think about profit or loss. Think about what is feasible for you now. Age is no barrier to learning Korean in India.

As an EXTC student, I’d suggest choosing between Japanese, German, or French. These three languages will be more useful when you go for a master’s degree in the same subject in Germany, Japan or in any of the European countries. Unlike other language proficiency tests that are valid for life, TOPIK scores are valid for 2 years only. The opportunities are there in Korean but not as much as Japanese, German, or French in the field of Engineering. Korean is one of the languages which is most studied for culture and pleasure. If that is the main reason, go with it. Whatever you decide, do remember language learning takes at least a few years.

As per your previous comment few months back, you were doing Certificate in Chinese language from Ramjas. No? You can continue with Mandarin only. Career wise, Mandarin has an edge over Korean. The Job opportunity in Korean is also growing but quite limited. Whatever language you pick, it will take 3-5 years to make a successful career as Translator or Interpreter.
No. The Marks in your BCOM won’t make any significant difference. At the end of the day, your proficiency in the language concerned is what that will matter most. Try your level best for JNU entrance. The 5-year Integrated BA + MA in Mandarin/Korean will enable you to make a successful career as a language expert.

You can definitely learn Korean. What is I2? The Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) includes 6 Levels, from Beginners (1st level) to High Advanced (6th). You can certainly pursue Advanced level from South Korea. There are plenty of good options.

Since this interview is a new addition. I’m not sure about the purpose of the interview or type of questions they will ask. It is not an entrance exam. So, not a big deal. If you want to learn Korean, KCC is indeed a good option. Since they don’t offer any job placement, you have to find one on own after completing 6-8 levels.

While Career options in Korean is greater today than ever, It cannot be compared to Japanese. The growing popularity of Korean Language in India is mainly because of K-Drama, K-Pop, and popular star like BTS and of course unique and vibrant culture. Job prospects are quite limited though growing. While it is expected to grow northward, it won’t be able to reach on a par with Japanese in foreseeable future say 10 years.
I have studied several languages including Japanese and Korean and i personally love Korean. If you’ve the interest, you should learn Korean. Every language is unique, useful in certain countries, and offers some career opportunities and distinct advantage. There is no better or best. It’s personal choice based on numerous factors!

To become permanent lecturer/Asst. Professor in Colleges/Universities, you need MA. in Korean and also must have qualified NET/SET. For any promotion, one needs Ph.D. in Korean along with teaching/research experience. The University higher authority can also appoint temporarily for lower pay without these qualifications. Even in that case, however A higher proficiency with experience is prerequisite. Because of very few vacancies and high academic qualification as entry barrier, getting a Job in any University is quite difficult.

Sir, Korean cultural centre has one semester each to achieve beginner’s , intermediate and advanced level. That means in just one year one can reach advanced Korean. Is it really true? Can i afterwards get a government job as a language expert in ministry of external affairs?

NO. The entire Korean course is divided into 8 levels (Beginners – B1 & B2, Intermediate – I1 & I2, and Advanced – A1, A2, A3, & A4). It takes roughly 4 months to complete one level. Thus, it will take 3 years to complete all 8 levels. If you miss any level or fail, it will take more time. I am not aware of any Gov. job for Korean expert. Government generally choose an existing employee and give training or send to various centres like SFL to learn Korean as per requirement.

Between two, Japanese has an edge as far as career prospect is concerned. Do remember Whatever you choose, it will take a minimum of 3 years to complete an advanced level. You can learn some beginners level only in a few days but being fluent in one of the east Asian languages is altogether a different ball game. There is no real-world benefit in pursuing 6-12 month short-term courses. Generally, I don’t advise Learning two new languages at the same time. IMO, you should at least get HSK 5 before you try Korean. For hobby or interest, it’s fine but for a career. I missed one of your query. No certificate in Korean through distance learning is not enough. Minimum Advanced Diploma (University) or TOPIK-II Level 4 or 5 is required for Jobs. However, CKLC can be a start. Later, when it will feasible – you can pursue some classroom courses.

That is quite interesting! Getting a job in Korea is not easy. You need very good academic qualification, experience and of course fluency in Korean. It’s better to try for PG course & not UG. South Korea offers a variety of PG courses in various stream and marks is not criteria for many such courses.
It is extremely difficult to get citizenship in South Korea. That is why there are very few foreigners settled there. You can work there after completing PG courses as long as you have skilled job in hand with good salary. Even for that, you need high level of proficiency in Korean. As of now, learn Korean and aim for TOPIK Level V in next 3 years.

It is difficult to learn Korean on own due to lack of discipline, guidance, conversation, and regular test. You can buy any beginners level book to start learning. Nice to read your blog. I have done B.Sc and preparing for M.sc in Maths though i don’t have interest. I’m passionate about learning languages and learnt basic Arabic and Hangul (Korean). If you want to learn, Whatever your reason – as long as you have a reason – you’re more likely to reach your language goals.
Don’t try to learn multiple language. You will end up with nothing. Choose one, try to learn through books and online resources. Certification or Degrees are required for Jobs. You can learn on own, and when you are confident enough, then you can appear for Language proficiency test such as TOPIK (Korean) in Delhi or nearby centres. It is very difficult to learn a language on own but given your situation, you can definitely try it. Good Luck!

You should continue with UG programme. Korean Language offers a plethora of career options and job opportunities. Thanks to strong economy, the career prospect looks promising at least in the foreseeable future. Also on successful completion of BA(H) in Korean, you can take direct admission to the MA in Korean without giving entrance test.

He might not to be reply. From 2019, The new exam format will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Since it is new format, wait for the prospectus, which will be released in this month. It is indeed difficult because of limited number of seats but definitely possible if you prepare well.

There are very few options in Bangalore for Korean classes. Bangalore University offers Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma in Korean. You can try few private institutes.

(i) NO. A certificate is not enough. You should target either Advanced Diploma from any University or TOPIK-II (Level 4/5) if you are studying in any private institute. (ii) In Delhi, You can try Korean Culture Centre (Lajpat Nagar – 4), or Arirang Korean Academy (Dwarka). Read — Korean Courses in Delhi. (iii) Open course? Means Online or Part-time? The effectiveness of online courses varies. Both Part-time and regular are good enough.
